One of my brilliant friends, Dr. Melinda A. Mills, is a sociologist who studies and writes about multiracial identities and experiences in the U.S. While working on one of her books, The Colors of Love: Multiracial People in Interracial Relationships (NYU Press), she asked me to develop a cover design concept reflective of the project’s original working title, Invisible Mixture. I excitedly obliged, and based the cover design on one of the conceptual visualizations I’d previously made for the project.
